Karen Martin, M.Ed.
Karen was born and raised in Ottawa and has always had a passion for helping others. After obtaining her Masters in Education, she worked with the Children’s Aid Society for many years. Karen left that sector to join Retire-At-Home, where she started as the Human Resources Manager overseeing the recruitment, training and evaluation of all caregivers at Retire-At-Home. Karen excelled in her management skills and in 2013 took over the role of Executive Director, now managing all aspects of the operations, including Client Care and Human Resources.
Karen says, “Working with all the amazing employees that help our clients is truly a privilege. Everyday we all feel like we are making a real difference in the lives of our clients. I’m proud to manage a team whose emphasis is always on quality and commitment.”
Jonathan Martin, B.Com.
Jonathan joined Retire-At-Home in 1996 as an office administrator. With almost 20 years in management with the company he has seen the company grow from a small home-based business to one of Ottawa’s most recognized home care companies. Over the years, Jonathan has been responsible for the company’s operations, including marketing and business development programs, development of processes and procedures and corporate policies, staff recruiting and retention activities, accreditation, and back-office systems. In 2006, Jonathan was recognized as one of Ottawa’s Top 40 under 40 business leaders.
Jonathan says “I love working in an industry that helps people through some of the most challenging times in life. Making a positive difference in senior’s lives is incredibly rewarding.”
Client Care Manager
Judy has been actively involved in Health Care for over 25 years. She started her career as a Nurses Aid in the early 80’s. For the past 20 years she has worked with Retire-At-Home as a Case Manager. Judy “has seen it all” during this time, overseeing the daily activities of the client care department and closely managing the care of thousands of clients over the years.
Judy says “Each day I have the privilege of working with a diverse group of clientele and employees. Helping seniors through challenging times and improving their lives is a passion, not just a job!”
Nadia Cardinal, RPN
Client Care Manager
Having always had a keen interest in the medical field, Nadia entered the health care world in 2005. Firstly working as a medical administrator, she pursued her education and became a Registered Practical Nurse in 2009. She joined Retire-At-Home in 2007 as the On-Call Supervisor and transitioned into the role of Client Care Manager in 2010.
Nadia says “I have had the chance to work as an RPN in many settings, and working in the community with the elderly is the most rewarding of all. The moment you enter their home and hear all about their personal history and achievements, you become very focused helping in any way possible. Working with a great multidisciplinary team is what makes this possible!”
Barbara Davis, RPN
Client Care Manager
Born and raised in Ottawa, Barb began working as a Registered Practical Nurse in 2001, working in Long-Term Care and later in the retirement sector. She joined Retire-At-Home in 2010 as a Case Manager and plays an integral role in working with the clients and their families, as well as physicians and specialist.
Barb says “I love working with seniors and their families. We have a wonderful team of caregivers here and it’s great to deliver such a personalized service.”
Brittany Cook, RPN
Client Care Manager
Brittany graduated as a Registered Practical Nurse from Cambrian College in 2008, and then moved to Ottawa where she pursued a rewarding career working with seniors; primarily in the community setting. She joined Retire-At-Home in 2014 as a Client Care Manager and works closely with seniors and their families to develop a care plan that meets their individual needs.
Brittany says ”I have always loved working with seniors and I am proud to be a part of a team that gives them the opportunity to remain safe in the comfort of their own home!”
Client Service Coordinator
Isabelle started working for Retire-At-Home as a Caregiver and Home Support Worker and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her senior clients in the community. She recently joined the management team taking on the role of Client Care Coordinator, helping clients and caregivers with their schedules.
Isabelle says, “I was very blessed with my clients as a field worker, and now love helping more clients with their everyday home and health care needs!”
Catherine Bennett, BSW.
Community Relations Manager
In 2001, Catherine Bennett graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Social Work. Since this time, she has worked in various non-profit organizations working with vulnerable populations including seniors. She worked at the Nepean Seniors Centre, Harmer House, The Arthritis Society, and TeamWork Cooperative whereby she assisted people with disabilities find meaningful work. Catherine started working at Retire-At-Home in 2014 as the Community Relations Manager.
Catherine says, “I love making a positive difference in the lives of others by providing efficient solutions to caregiving issues. Meeting with people at fundraising events, special seniors’ events, fundraising walks, and health conferences helps us find new solutions to providing home care.”
Caridad came to Canada in 1990 with an education Bachelor of Commerce, with a passion for accounting. She achieved her Accounting Diploma in Canada and started working in the accounting field in 1994. Caridad joined Retire-At-Home in 2005 and has been managing all client and employee accounts from a financial perspective.
Caridad says “We have a really great group of people to work with, a pleasant work environment. I love speaking with our clients and helping them through their questions and concerns.”
